This page is meant to be an aid in researching alternative means of treating and preventing cancer, for whomever may be interested.
I am not a doctor or any kind of a healthcare practicioner. I like to find and share information. I started to research this subject in January of 2022, when I had a brief cancer scare. Luckily I have not had cancer. I know that it can be very scary. I have always been interested in alternative approaches to health. Cancer is not the funnest subject, so I had not previously spent any time looking into it. I have found this to be an extremely interesting subject.
There are over 200 kinds of cancer. Cancer is the number two cause of death in the US, heart disease is number one. Cancer is expected to soon be number one, as it already is in 22 states.
I am not making any claims and I am not giving medical advice. And I am not suggesting that anyone should not see a doctor or follow their advice. But I do suggest that you should become as informed as you can and make your own decisions, with as much help as you want from wherever you can get it. Many people may want to pursue alternative treatment exclusively, or at least give it a try, and many people may wish to use alternative treatment along with conventional treatment. This could be called complementary or integrative therapy. Some doctors may be open to this, some may not be. In most cases, especially in a new diagnosis of early stage cancer, there is time to research options before jumping right into conventional treatment. And in some cases of late-stage cancer, doctors may say that they have nothing more to offer. I highly recommend watching the PBS documentary film, Cancer, The Emperor of All Maladies. This 6-hour film presents the medical history of cancer treatment. Conventional treatment generally consists of surgery, chemotherapy and radiation, also known as "cut, poison and burn". Many lives have been saved or lengthened with such treatment. And there are continuing advances in conventional treatment, including immunotherapy. There can also be downsides to such treatments. There are many alternatives to conventional treatment. Every person is different, every body is different, every cancer is different. Alternative treatment is largely dismissed by mainstream science and medicine. But I would suggest that there is nothing unscientific about most alternative therapies. The world of alternative healing is quite vast. There are certainly many wrong ideas, charlatans, con men, etc. Which is one reason why I suggest reading as much as you can, to sort out what has merit.
Many books are listed here. It may not be necessary to buy or read any of these books, but I do recommend get and read as many of them as you can. You may be able to find them cheap or borrow them from libraries. (also check out http://www.pdfdrive.com, where many books in PDF form can be downloaded at no charge). Or you may find sufficient information on the web. But I definitely recommend keep on learning. The more you look, the more you will find. I do not have all of these books, but I have obtained quite a few of them. I have been continually amazed at how much information there is. One reason I list so many books here is to give support to the idea that there are many valid alternative ways to look at cancer treatment. Another reason is to show that we are way beyond just a handful of anecdoctal cases. Note that most of these books are written either by doctors and scientists, or by cancer survivors. I have tried to list here as many good books as I can find and as many different therapies as I could find. I would suggest that rather than trying to figure out which is the one best thing to do, it might be better to follow the "cocktail" approach and use as many different therapies as you can.
Most of the best ideas in alternative cancer treatment will apply perhaps even more to prevention, and much of it is good advice for just good general health. Cancer is increasingly understood to be a metabolic disease (rather than a genetic condition), and thus has a lot to do with what we are eating or not eating. Most of us have eaten a fairly unhealthy diet for most of our lives and have been exposed to many toxins. So a lot of alternative approaches to cancer involve changes in diet, and/or detoxification. When we are looking at various dietary approaches, we may find some similarities (as well as contradictions). Many people may claim to have cured their cancer by following a Macrobiotic diet. It may be that it was not so much all the specifics of that approach as it was just that someone stopped eating meat or dairy. A positive attitude may be very important. It may be that many people who reversed their cancer by following this or that therapy actually improved just because they had a very strong positive attitude (the placebo effect). We may be a long ways off from having a complete understanding of cancer. But I do suggest that there are a great many success stories from people who have followed alternative paths, whether or not they also followed the conventional approach.
Anyway, this is just some information I have found on the subject of cancer, including a lot of books, in case it may be of use to anyone. This is not meant to be a guide to cancer, but a guide to researching alternative cancer treatment. And I note again that quite a bit of this is relevant to good health in general. I am not necessarily recommending anything in particular just because I document it here. I like to keep an open mind and I try to learn from everyone. I'm still working on this, and it might always be a bit rough and unfinished.

Excellent book. One of the top books I would recommend on alternative cancer
treatment (or just for anyone who wants to be super healthy).
Chris declined chemo after having surgery for colon cancer at age 26.
His approach is a plant-based diet, ideally raw, and lots of juicing.
He ate 2 "Giant Cancer-Fighting Salads" every day. Exceptionally
well-written book. Very well-organized. Thorough but also concise.
Contains many details on various fruits, vegetables, mushrooms, herbs, etc.
Heavily annotated with scientific studies.

The author was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma with an inoperable tumor
in 1977 at age 27. After six months of radiation treatment, she was told there
was nothing more they could do. She found a naturopathic doctor who guided
her into healing, mainly with a radical nutrient-dense healthy diet. As of
2022, she has been cancer-free for 45 years. I got this book right after
watching her interviews with Chris Wark (linked above). A short book, very
easy to read. Lots of information. Very inspirational. Highly recommended.

Diet is certainly an important factor in preventing and treating cancer.
Just what that diet should be might be complicated and will certainly vary from person to person and fron time to time. We might say that humans are omnivores and can eat anything. But obviously there are healthy and unhealthy things to eat. Determining what is good for you may not be simple, but it is certainly worth examining your diet and making improvements. Many people claim to have cured cancer just by making some changes in their diet. Some people become vegetarian, some follow particular diets, some eat what they want but add some supplements. You can get pretty radical, like just eating salads every day and drinking fresh-squeezed juices. I would not be afraid of getting pretty extreme for a while as a cancer-fighting protocol, but in general I don't think people have to get too radical. Most people are ingesting quite a bit of obviously bad substances that can be cut out. And most of us can learn a lot about healthy things we can add to our diets. I am no expert on this and do not claim to have the answers, but I will present a lot of ideas here, which can be researched or tried. And this whole page may be in kind of a rough format, you might think of it as clues. You can get all the help you want, but you will mainly need to make your own way.
Concept of macronutrients and micronutrients:
Macronutrients = Carbohydrates, Fats, Protein
Micronutrients = Vitamins and Minerals
Most people get plenty of macronutrients but are very much deficient in
micronutrients and need to eat more "nutrient-dense" foods
Many sources recommend to reduce or cut out sugar, reduce carbohydrates, reduce or cut out meat, reduce or cut out dairy foods, reduce or cut out alcohol, cut out processed foods, fried foods.
A plant based diet may be very healthy. Consult Dr Gregor's book, How Not to Die. But you will also find a lot of references to the Ketogenic diet, which is high fat, low carb, and may include a lot of animal foods.
Keep in mind that if you are fighting cancer, and you want to use a radical dietary approach, it does not have to be forever. You certainly should improve your diet for the rest of your life, but who can say what that diet should be. Many people are very healthy eating animal foods.
Whatever kind of diet you are following, it is probably good to eat more
vegetables, fruits, and whole grains. Some some diets do not include
grains, as they are carbohydrates. But if you do eat grains, it would be
better if they were whole grains - white rice has had all of the nutrition
and fiber removed. Same with white flour. If you are not used to eating
vegetables, try out brocolli, cauliflower, kale, cabbage, greens,
carrots, beets, cucmbers, squash, potatoes, onions, celery. Rather than
following elaborate detailed recipes, you can eat vegetables raw in salads
(chop or grate), cook easily by steaming, or lightly saute.
Cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, kale, and cabbage
are especially anti-cancer and good for the digestive tract.
Iindole-3-carbinol (indolymethanol) is the "active ingredient" in cruciferous
vegetables and may have the effect of stopping replication of cancer cells.
When indole-3-carbinol is digested in the human body,
diindolylmethane (DIM) is produced. You can buy this as a supplement.

Many people are not in the habit of eating fruits, such as bananas, apples, pears, peaches, avocados, oranges, lemons, limes, pineapples, kiwis, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, cherries, blackberries, (berries are especially anti-cancer). Fruits can be a good snack or desert or can be juiced or added to salads (chop or grate).
Seeds and nuts such as sunflower seeds, flax seeds, pumpkin seeds, pecans, walnuts, brazil nuts, cashews, can be ground in a nut grinder or a coffee grinder and added to smoothies, or eaten as snacks or cooked in food.
Grains and beans are easy to cook. Check out a used copy of the old classic book Tarrajara Cooking. If you eat bread, preferably it would be whole-grain bread. Brown rice, oatmeal, and quinoa are easy to cook. Lentils, aduki and mung beans cook in about the same time as rice, and can be cooked together. Other beans may need more time and should be soaked for a while first, preferably overnight.

Smoothies -
Many different foods can be blended to make smoothies.
You can get a blender for $20.
I have been making a smoothie in the morning, about 32oz (give or take 12oz), and drinking that instead of breakfast and lunch. Here is how I am making it -
Grind in Coffee Grinder -
2tbsp freshly flax seed, 2tbsp sunflower seed, small amount of almonds,
cashews, brazil nuts, maybe fennel seed, or fenugreek, or licorice.
I might leave any of these out or add other things or vary amounts.
I might substitute juice or tea or coffee for water.Some people
might use milk, or a plant milk such as almond milk or soy milk.
Some people might also add some yogurt or a raw egg, like if you are doing
this for bodybuilding. But for anti-cancer (or even bodybuilding), there
is plenty of protein here without animal foods. You can also add any
kind of protein powder, plant-based or not.
Fresh Juices
You can consume huge quantities of vegetables and/or fruits by juicing them.
Juicing may also make the nutrients more available.
There are many juicers on the market ranging from under $100 to over $1000.
There are many books about juicing, some from over 50 years ago.
My favorite juicer and the one I still use (when I use it) is the Acme
Juicerator. These have been made for over 70 years. Many years ago the Waring
Blender company bought the Acme Juicer company. They kept the name for a while
and the design stayed the same. Waring now puts their name on several models
including the Waring Commercial Heavy Duty Juice Extractor Model 6001C, which
is about $500.00 (and is probably comparable to the original Acme, but I have
not seen one). The original Acme was around $200 in the 1970's and 80's. You
can find Acme Juicerators on eBay for good prices, ranging from $30 to $100.
Sometimes the description will say something like "found in Grandma's
attic, barely used". These are very tough machines - when I worked in a
health food restaurant in the 80's, we had an old Acme in continuous use for
years and I saw it dropped on the floor many times. Replacement parts
are still available. The model 6001 is mainly stainless steel. The model
5001 has much more plastic parts. (you want the 6001).
I am going on about this because I want to make sure you know that you
can get a super high quality juicer very affordably. (eBay!)
There are many newer juicers around, which can also be found used.
Some people do not favor the Acme because it is a centrifugal juicer, which
spins at a very high speed and may oxidize the juice a bit. In the past,
those who had great concern about this might use a Norwalk or a K&K juicer,
which were 2-part machines, one to chop up the vegetables and one to press
out the juice. These were over $1000. I do not think this is that great of
a concern, but there are newer, affordable juicers, such as the Omega, which
are low-speed. I found the Omega to be a lot of trouble to take apart and
clean. I can take apart an Acme, clean it, and put it back together in
a minute or two. The Champion is another high-quality machine which is
no longer made. An advantage of the Champion is that you can make a lot of
juice before having to take it apart and clean it, while the Acme has to
be taken apart and emptied after each juice. Different juicers behave
differently with different vegetables and fruits. For example you might
need a citrus juicer for oranges and a special juicer for wheatgrass, or a
filter to juice apples by themselves in an Acme. (there is also a citrus
attachment to convert the Acme to a citrus juicer).
Anyway, you will find many alternative cancer books talking about juicing
and you might want to look into it. You can buy fresh-squeezed juices in
healthfood restaurants, but it is way cheaper to do your own juicing.
There are many people who claim to have healed advanced cancer with
carrot juice alone.
I used to work in a health food restaurant and I drank a lot of carrot
juice. My hands even started to turn a bit orange. I have been lazy about
juicing for many years and ocassionally I start back into it. Probably not
necessary for most people, but can be a very powerful medicine, or healing
food. There could be an issue with sugar intake from some vegetables. And it
could also be advisable to dilute juices with water.
I recommend try carrot with some beet, celery, apple and a little ginger.
And maybe add some garlic if that doesn't ruin it for you.

Some people eat fish in an otherwise vegetarian diet, which is sometimes
called pescatarian. Some people eat eggs and dairy in an otherwise
vegetarian diet, which is sometimes called lacto-ovo-vegetarian.
A vegan diet includes no animal foods. A raw foods vegan diet includes no
cooked food. Note that any kind of a vegetarian diet may require doing
some research to insure that you are getting sufficient nutrition.
For instance you may need to look at protein, as well as vitamin B12 (which
generally is only found in animal food). Some people take supplemnts,
some people prefer not to. But there may be a need for a B12 supplement.

Fasting
Fasting can be a very powerful way to detoxify the body. The concept of
"intermittant fasting" has recently become popular. This refers to eating
within a small timeframe every day - such as not eating after 6pm and then
not eating breakfast or anything early in the morning. So you might eat
breakfast/lunch at noon, supper at 6 and you would be fasting for 18 hours
every day. Some diets may be called "fast-mimicking".
More radically, some people fast for days drinking only water, or sometimes
juices. Many years ago I fasted twice for 13 days each, drinking juices.
Water fasting is a step farther. And I have recently come across the concept
of dry fasting (see book below).
Dick Gregory used to fast every year for 40 days on water. In 1981 he fasted
on a gallon of water a day for 70 days under doctors' supervision at
Dillard University's Flint-Goodridge Hospital in New Orleans. After 70 days,
he walked and jogged 100 miles from New Orleans to Baton Rouge.

Jason Winters Tea
Sir Jason Winters was a cancer patient who was given 3 months to live in 1977,
after radiation therapy. He travelled the world looking for a cure. He found
laetrile, which seemed to make his cancer go away, but it came back.
He then tried some herbs - red clover, chaparral (which is sometimes
interchanged with Indian sage), and "herbalene" which is a fake name for 2
herbs that he kept secret. The tea from these herbs supposedly made his
cancer go away (he died many years later in 2004). He also stopped smoking
and drinking and changed his diet. The tea can be bought at Amazon or at the
official site, which is run by Jason's son, Sir Raymond Winters. I searched
for the scientific paper mentioned on the official site on this page -

PSA test is a blood test that shows the level of Prostate-Specific Antigen
in the blood. PSA is a protein produced by normal and malignant cells of
the prostate gland. The result is reported as nanograms of PSA per
milliliter of blood (ng/mL).
A high PSA level can indicate cancer, but can also be caused by
prostatitis (inflamation of the prostate) or by benign prostatic hyperplasia
(BPH) (enlargement of the prostate). A high level may not indicate cancer
and cancer can be present with a low level.
A normal PSA level is 1.0 to 1.5, but varies with age. (ideally PSA is 0)
40-50 years - 0-2.5
medically, a PSA score above 10 is of concern
(some doctors say a PSA score over 4 is of concern)
A PSA level over 100 generally indicates stage 4 cancer.
A fast rise in PSA level is more concerning than a particular level.
Ejaculation may cause a significant rise in PSA concentration, which
can persist for up to 48 hours (can affect test results)

DRE - Digital Rectal Examination - checks for hardened prostate
(induration) and for masses (nodulation), either of which may
indicate cancer. Performed by a doctor, inserting a gloved finger into
the anus. Normally quick and painless.

Gleason grading system helps evaluate prognosis of men with prostate
cancer using samples from a prostate biospy.
Gleason score ranges from 2 to 10.
(some sources say scores range from 6-10, there have been revisions)
There are 5 patterns or architectural types of tumors in the Gleason system.
The Gleason score is obtained by adding together the pattern numbers of
the primary and secondary grades (or the primary and tertiary grades,
if the tertiary has a higher pattern number than the secondary).
The primary grade is the dominant pattern of the tumor, more than 50%.
The secondary grade is less than 50% and more than 5%.
A tertiary grade may be a small component of a more aggressive pattern.
Scores of 2-4 indicates very small tumors, generally not treated
Scores 5-7 are the majority of treated prostate cancers.
Scores of 8-10 can be advanced neoplasms, unlikely to be cured.

Colon Health:
The best way to promote a healthy colon is to have a healthy diet,
with sufficient fiber being of top importance. A diet with plenty of
vegetables, fruits, beans, whole grains should have plent of fiber.
A suppplement can be taken to insure that you are getting enough fiber.
I recommend powdered psyllium seed husk, which is available in capsules
as well as bulk powder. I don't take this every day, since I normally have
plenty of fiber in my diet, but I might take some if I have been eating some
meals that don't have so much fiber. Probiotics may be important also,
especially after taking antibiotics. Exercise has a good effect on colon
health. Staying hydrated is important for digestion and elimination and
overall health.
Colonic Irritation / Colon Hydrotherapy
Some people might recommend colonics for detoxification. A colonic is
performed by a therapist trained in colonic irrigation. A machine is
used to move water into and out of the colon. This is more thorough
than an enema. Sometimes people add coffee or probiotics or nutrients to
water used in enemas or colonics, as the colon can absorb such substances
more efficiently than taking by mouth. Although this might be a helpful
therapy, it is probably not really necessary for most people who have a good
diet with plenty of fiber. Same with enemas and laxatives.
There are various supplements and practices that are used to help with
digestion, elimination, constipation, etc. Note that constipation is
usually the result of a lack of fiber and a lack of hydration.
Nauli Kriya
Nauli kriya is a yogic practice in which abdominal muscles are isolated
and trained to massage the lower abdominal cavity. There are many videos
on Youtube illustrating and instructing in this practice. This is often
shown and taught in a seated position, such as in lotus, but it is much
easier to learn and practice while standing. It can be considered an advanced
practice that can take a while to learn. Note that while this may be an
excellent way to help in maintaining colon health, it may be possibly not be
advisable in some conditions, such as some stages of colon cancer
(or it might be helpful).

We can see cancer as a physical problem in the physical body. This is how
cancer is seen by modern medicine. And I tend to focus on the physical
approaches to healing the problem of cancer in the physical body. Most
of this entire webpage covers that approach. But we can also see the
human physical body as one part of the whole person. In a "holistic" view,
we also include emotional, mental and spiritual aspects of a person.
We could also term this as body, heart, mind and soul. It may be true
that many people have healed cancer solely through faith, prayer,
visualization, hope, positive mental attitude, etc. I would certainly not
recommend overlooking the physical approach to healing cancer, but I would
also recommend paying some attention to the holistic approach.
A positive mental attitude can be very important. It is well-established
that negative emotions and thoughts (anger, hate, fear, doubt, stress), can
have physical effects on the body. So we certainly want to work on addressing
such thoughts and emotions. Also there is a lot of science on the placebo
effect.

You can also blend greens such as kale or various vegetables. I have not
experimented much with this yet. Some people use powerful blenders such
as the Vitamix to be able to blend all kinds of vegetables, etc.
(I would tend to think of juicing rather than blending vegetables).
And actually, it may turn out to be advisable to follow a diet that
greatly reduces fruit. So, the concept of a smoothie can be a way to
get a lot of micronutrients, but can be modified for any particular
dietary approach.
Ralph Cole cured his cancer by drinking carrot juice and was the inspiration
for Ann Cameron who also cured her cancer by drinking carrot juice and wrote
the book Curing Cancer with Carrots. He says that cancer can be reversed by
drinking 6-8 cups per day of fresh carrot juice for several months. He
links to scientific studies showing that the active ingredients in carrot
juice seem to be falcarinol and falcarindiol.

Very interesting book! I recieved this book in the mail on MAY 17, 2022.
I read it in one sitting that night. It details the history of fasting and
the ketogenic diet and its use in epilepsy. Concluding with the modern
use of the ketogenic diet in many other conditions including cancer. This

As with any particular therapy, it may be that the Gerson Therapy can be very
effective for some people due to certain parts of the therapy, even though
other parts may not be effective. And it may work for reasons other than
claimed. For instance it may be very good to drink a lot of fresh juices,
but the benefit might be in some component of the juice rather than in a
detoxifiyng effect. Or perhaps Dr. Gerson was correct in every part of his
therapy. Coffee enemas are a central part of the therapy. The coffee enemas
are considered to have a powerful detoxifying effect. Also keep in mind that
Dr. Gerson died in 1958 and he would certainly have continued to research
and learn and develop his ideas.

This appears to be based on the original protocol, which included vitamin E.
Joe removed the vitamin E from the protocol at some point before he revised
it in 2021, and still does not include vitamin E. I think Joe removed the
vitamin E due to it being a blood thinner, and thus interfering with other
blood thinners (causing danger during or after surgery). So he I think he
removed it since he did not think it necessary and did not want potential
problems for anyone on the protocol. Vitamin E has been shown in many
studies to have anticancer effect. When Joe did recommend it, he
recommended to use Life Extension brand "Gamma E Mixed Tocopherols and
Tocotrienols", which contains all 8 forms (alpha, beta, delta, and gamma
tocotrienols and tocopherols).

Pubmed is the US government database of medical scientific papers.
Sometimes can read entire papers online for free, sometimes can only
read abstract and have to pay to read whole paper. The abstract contains
the basic ideas and results.
