Shafqat is a singer of Pakistani qawwali music. He is related to the late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, who is a much more famous singer of the same type of music. So far Shafqat has only one record out and it is really great. I have been listening to it over and over since getting it. He is probably even more successful at mixing the traditional music with modern sounds than Nusrat was. Sometimes the record sounds a little new-agey and over-produced but it has a powerful energy and the wailing vocals come right through. For a more traditional qawwali sound, check out the earlier records of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
